7 Times Martin Freeman Really Made Us Laugh in Interviews

Martin Freeman returns this week in Angelyne, Peacock's new miniseries about the cult L.A. celebrity of the same name. He plays Maurice Wallach, a fictional character who helps Emmy Rossum's Angelyne to rent the billboards that make her 'famous for being famous.' We can never get enough of the Sherlock, The Office, and The Hobbit actor, so we thought we'd look back at some of his funniest interview moments. Here are seven times his deadpan comic timing really made us laugh out loud.
1. The time he was told he looks like a hedgehog.
Famously, some Sherlock fans think Benedict Cumberbatch looks like an otter. But they also think Freeman bears more than a passing resemblance to a sweet but spiky hedgehog. When the actor is asked about this by Graham Norton – who else? – he takes it in very good humor indeed.

2. The time he shared his irrational fear of choking.
During another appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Freeman opened up about his pseudodysphagia (yes, that's a fancy term for the fear of choking). Apparently, he even managed to choke on some potato chips during a visit to Andy Serkis's house. So, given that potato chips aren't exactly difficult to swallow, maybe his phobia isn't quite so irrational after all?

3. The time he discussed Sherlock fan art.
Some Sherlock fans don't just enjoy comparing Freeman and Cumberbatch to woodland creatures; they also like imagining their characters in somewhat intimate positions. Freeman isn't fazed at all when Stephen Colbert shows him an example of this erotic fan art on The Late Show. After all, he's seen far steamier examples already...

4. The time he discussed his more revealing scenes in Love Actually.
As Freeman explains during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, these scenes weren't intended to turn anyone on. "So if they did," he adds with impeccable comic timing, "shame on you!"

5. The time he dropped a major cuss bomb.
Freeman is super-open about how much he enjoys swearing, so when Colbert asks him to share some of his favorite salty language, he doesn't hold back. At all. Don't worry, though, it's all bleeped out here, so you can watch without fear of offending anyone in earshot. Any guesses as to what he actually said?

6. The time he really packed a punch.
Appearing on The Graham Norton Show alongside British boxing champion Anthony Joshua, Freeman is asked to show off his own punch-throwing skills. Fellow guests Rachel Weisz and Greg Davies are encouraged to join in, too. Freeman is every bit as playful and self-deprecating as you'd expect, but it turns out that he has actually quite an impressive right hook on him.

7. And finally, the time he revealed the worst place in the world to get recognized.
Spoiler: it's somewhere very awkward indeed.
