We don’t typically get into people’s love lives or “Are they or aren’t they?” speculation about celebrity romances.

But in this case, Helena Bonham Carter (Suffragette, Cinderella) has chosen to talk about what’s going on with her and her former partner Tim Burton, so we feel like we have the green light to share with you.

Bonham Carter had a sit down with Red magazine and discussed the ending of her 13-year relationship with director Burton, saying, “I could write a thesis on what’s happened.”

The British actress, who has two children with Burton, describes the breakdown of their relationship as “all-absorbing,” but the two are “coming through it.”

She goes on to explain, saying, “Our relationship was always somewhat special, and I think it’ll always remain special.”

In the interview Bonham Carter comes across as appreciative for the time they spent together instead of considering their partnership as a failed one.

She highlights the positives of her romance with Burton, saying, “We did find each other. And really, the mark of a successful relationship shouldn’t be whether you’re there forever after. Sometimes you’re not meant to be forever together. Sometimes you have to come to terms with the fact that that was it. But that was a gift, a massive gift. We gave each other children and a lot more else.”

The actress and director worked on a string of films together including Big Fish (2001), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), Dark Shadows (2010) and the forthcoming Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass (2016).

We can also look forward to seeing Bonham Carter in the 2016 TV miniseries Love, Nina, which is about a nanny (Faye Marsay) living in London in the 1980s. Bonham Carter will play the mum to two boys.

She’s also signed on to star in Steve McQueen’s six-part drama Codes of Conduct, opposite Paul Dano and Rebecca Hall. The limited series will air on HBO, with the premiere date yet to be confirmed.

We’re appreciative of Bonham Carter sharing her thoughts with us. At least from this end, it sounds like she has her head on straight, her chin’s up, and she’s super busy (as usual) with family and work.

What do you think of Helena Bonham Carter’s candidness?
