'War of the Worlds' Star Ty Tennant Talks About Following in Dad and Granddad's 'Doctor Who' Footsteps
Tennant? Yep, as in Doctor Who's David Tennant. David and his wife Georgia have five children together, with David adopting Georgia's son Ty as his own.
You probably know the family's DW lineage, but here's a lil' recap: Georgia's father, Peter Davison, played the Fifth Doctor from 1982-1984. David stepped in as the Tenth Doctor in 2005, navigating the TARDIS through 2010. David and Georgia met on the set of DW, when co-starring in the 2008 episode "The Doctor's Daughter."
Now that we've covered how everyone knows each other, speeding up to now...
Ty is currently starring in the War of the Worlds miniseries. He talked to the Sunday Post about being bit by the acting bug, saying, "It must have been about 10 years ago. My grandparents were running classes at their home and I went along. I suppose they taught me how to act, and my mum and dad as well."
Possibly it was learned or it's inherited, but either way, acting is in him, with Ty saying, "It has always been a part of me, thinking maybe I should follow in the family footsteps as there are lots of actors in there."
He is really only just starting out but seems to be enjoying the process: "I’m still early in my career. Just auditioning for stuff, but it’s exciting. I love acting. It’s nice to play around and fantasize about being different people and playing different roles. There’s no limit to what you can do."
And, the big question is, does he have any aspirations to be involved with Doctor Who? His answer is honest, yet humbled, saying, "I don’t think I would ever decline the offer. Doctor Who is such a massive thing to take on. Whoever is truly right for it will get the role. If I am granted that, I will certainly do my best."
Aw, being sweet apparently runs in the family, too. We're cheering for this young actor to do great things.
He has made a great start of it so far:
