Nicholas Hoult has been on our radar for a while now, having starred in 2002's About a Boy as a child actor. Since then, we've seen him in a number of standout roles, including 2009's A Single Man and more recently in the X-Men franchise.
Hoult is not one to be pigeon-holed and explores all sorts of genres, including comedy, drama and sci-fi. This time around, he's stepping into horror, set to star in Renfield, reports Deadline.
If the name Renfield sounds familiar to you, it may be because he was a henchman for the infamous Dracula. We first meet Renfield, whose full name is R.M. Renfield, in Bram Stoker's 1897 novel. Renfield is an inmate at an asylum. It's believed he's having delusions, but actually he's troubled, having been a servant to Dracula. We can only imagine what kind of trauma that can cause a person.
We've seen this role on-screen before, in 1931's Dracula and 1992's Bram Stoker's Dracula, and in the TV series Penny Dreadful (2016).
Chris McKay will direct, with Ryan Ridley writing the script. It's all based on a pitch from Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead).
There isn't a ton of information on the movie and what the storyline will consist of, just that it is in fact happening.
We have a feeling more information will roll out over the next few months.
In the meantime, Hoult has finished filming on the period dramedy The Great as Emperor Peter III, which is available for watching now. And, we can always go back to a favorite, like The Favourite, where he stars opposite Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz.
We're excited to see Nicholas Hoult in this role, what about you?
