It was first announced in 2019, that The Matrix is getting a fourth installment, called The Matrix Resurrections.
Original cast members Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss are both set to reprise their roles, but neither Neo or Trinity remember each other or what happened leading up to present day, as seen in the newly released trailer.
There are also two new characters, played by Jessica Henwick and Yahya Abdul Mateen II, who work to help Neo remember who he is:
While it's been over 20 years since the first movie came out in 1999, we are definitely getting some original Matrix vibes, like when seeing the green electro grid pop up and then vanish, Neo spilling blue capsules into his hand, and of course, him searching for the truth.
In the trailer we hear Mateen's character say to Neo, "The only thing that matters to you is still here. I know that's why you're fighting... and why you'll never give up." Neo responds to this statement, flat-out saying, "You don't know me."
Apparently, Neo hasn't changed much either. He's not one to be told what he thinks.
If The Matrix franchise is new to you, here's a look back at the trailer for the original:
In addition to Reeves and Moss, Lana Wachowski, who co-wrote and directed the first three films, is set to return. She created the sci-fi/thriller franchise with her sister, Lilly Wachowski. The sibling writing partners refer to themselves professionally as The Wachowski Brothers.
Lana Wachowski has teamed up with Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell to write the script for the latest installment.
The Matrix Resurrections is set to release on December 22.
