Doctor Who alum Gugu Mbatha-Raw has a new role coming up, set to star in the four-part thriller The Girl Before, heading to the BBC in the U.K. and HBO Max in the U.S., reports ComingSoon.net.
The girl before… what? Oh, we’ll get there.
Based on J.P. Delaney’s 2016 novel, the story revolves around a young woman (Mbatha-Raw) who is looking for a fresh start. She finds a new place to live, which is described as an “architectural masterpiece.” It is minimalist in design and promises transformation.
Except, the lease comes with some rules, like “no ornaments, no carpets or rugs, no pictures.”
Also, the owner is very particular about his tenants, wanting the person to match-up with his vision.
But, as predicted by the title, there was a girl who lived there before, and it did not work out well.
The trailer helps provide some of the backstory and what’s to come:

With the structure being minimalist in nature, it doesn’t sound all that bad, to keep things tidy. But, after watching the trailer, there is a fine line between cleanliness and someone exerting godliness.
If you think you spotted David Oyelowo as the architect, you are correct. His character comes across as controlling and oppressive, but we have no idea what made him this way.
We shall find out soon, when The Girl Before premieres on December 19 In the U.K. with the U.S. release date still to come.
Is this going on your watch list?
