Kristen Stewart Set to Star as Actress and Activist Jean Seberg in Biopic 'Against All Enemies'
We know Kristen Stewart best as Bella Swan from the Twilight series, and last time she graced the Anglo pages we were chatting about her starring in 2015's Equals, opposite Nicholas Hoult.
Now she has a new film in the works, a political thriller called Against All Enemies. She's set to portray iconic actress Jean Seberg, who starred in films like Breathless and, according to Empire magazine, is credited with being the American face of the French New Wave movement.
In addition to her film work, Seberg was politically active, supporting the Black Panther Party. The film takes place in the 1960s, during a time in her life when she was followed by the FBI, who were attempting to discredit her as a civil rights activist. She was targeted by an illegal surveillance program known as COINTELPRO.
While she had a successful career, and was very passionate about her beliefs, Seberg's life took a tragic turn, ending unexpectedly in 1979.
Director Benedict Andrews provides some more insight on what to expect in the biopic, saying in a statement, "Anna (Waterhouse) and Joe's (Shrapnel) brilliant screenplay combines the torque and epic scope of a conspiracy thriller with the raw intimacy of a love story."
If you aren't familiar with Seberg's work, here is a look at a scene from Breathless:
Stewart, meanwhile, has completed the 2018 action-thriller film Underwater, also starring T.J. Miller (Silicon Valley), and there's talk of her starring in a 2019 reboot of Charlie's Angels. But as of now, it's just talk.
Against All Enemies has yet to be given a release date.
Do you think Stewart is a good choice to take on this fearless character?
