We just saw Gerard Butler in this year's Greenland, the emotionally driven survival story. It was recently announced, that we can look for a sequel to the disaster movie, with Butler set to reprise his role.
Butler has dabbled in the romantic comedy genre, starring in fun romps like 2009's The Ugly Truth, opposite Katherine Heigl, but it seems action is his go-to. He takes the lead in the beyond popular Has Fallen franchise — Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen, Angel Has Fallen — as Secret Service agent Mike Banning.
We trust Butler in all of his roles, no matter the genre, but... action is kind of our go-to for him, too.
He's now signed on for a new role, starring opposite Mike Colter (Luke Cage), in the action flick The Plane, reports ComingSoon.net.
As the title suggests, the story is set on a... plane. Colter portrays a man named Louis Gaspare, who is being extradited to Canada on criminal charges. He's described as former military with a cool head. Which, will probably be needed, as this plane is about to go down.
We can look for Butler as Brodie Torrance, who is the pilot of the plane. While he doesn't successfully fly the plane to their planned destination, he is able to land it on a remote, yet very dangerous, island. There, they are met by pirates who are after the plane.
Torrance's new mission is to protect his passengers, murderer or not. We should probably mention Gaspare has been accused of homicide.
Based on spy novelist Charles Cumming's work, the screenplay will be co-written by Cumming, J.P. Davis and Matt Cook, with Jean-François Richet directing.
The project is in the early stages, with a release date still to come.
