First Look: Sabrina the Teenage Witch is Back in Darker Version of Graphic Novel

Sabrina Spellman is making her return to TV in the Netflix original series The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Rel: Oct. 26). The name of the series differs from what we saw in the '90s and the character herself will be darker than what we're used to, with the content being pulled from the 2014 graphic novel versus the comics.

A first look of Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men) in character on-set has come through, via the show's Twitter page. In the left picture we see what looks like a magical circle. Which, makes sense, Sabrina is... a witch after all!

As mentioned above, Kiernan Shipka will be playing  Sabrina Spellman — a character made famous by Melissa Joan Hart in the original — and Ross Lynch is set to play her boyfriend, Harvey Kinkle. You may remember Shipka from Mad Men (2007-2015), as Sally Draper. Lucy Davis and Miranda Otto are confirmed to portray her witch-y aunts, Hilda and Zelda, respectively. Rounding out the cast is Doctor Who's Michelle Gomez, who'll take on the role of Sabrina's favorite teacher, Mary Wardell.

The Netflix series will take place in the 1960s. Sabrina is still a half-witch, and lives with her aunties, and is loved-up with her high school sweetheart, like the series that ran from 1996 through 2003. So, those elements of the storylines are intact.

Viewers seem pretty excited about the return, sharing feedback via Twitter:

The 10-part series, one hour long each, will air on Netflix this coming October 26.
