First Look: 'Game of Thrones' Star Gemma Whelan Crosses Over to 'Killing Eve' as Carolyn Martens' Daughter

Fiona Shaw returns to play Carolyn Martens in the BBC America thriller Killing Eve, with season three premiering on Sunday, April 12 at 9pm EST. In a recent chat with EW, she revealed that her character's adult daughter, Geraldine, will be popping up this season.

Gemma Whelan will be taking on this pivotal role. If Whelan isn't quite a household name, you may recognize her from Game of Thrones as Yara Greyjoy. Her character was pretty badass in GoT. So, what should we expect for KE?

Here's a peek at Shaw and Whelan in character:

We already know Carolyn's son Kenny (Sean Delaney), who supports Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) and her mission to take down Villanelle (Jodie Comer). It will be quite interesting to meet her daughter.

Shaw describes their mother-daughter dynamic to EW, laughingly saying, “Ummm… it's disastrous. There is a part, where Carolyn says, ‘In some ways, you were always your father's child, and Kenny was mine.’"

Ouch! That must be hard for a child to hear, and we can't wait to see what her response is, once season three kicks off.

Shaw goes on to explain what she means by the above, "For all the peculiarity of their relationship, Kenny and his mom have a lot in common. They're both slightly obsessive and maybe slightly on the spectrum, and they go on very well in their silence."

Rewinding back to season one, viewers didn't even know Carolyn and Kenny were related, until Eve showed up to Carolyn's home unannounced. Actually, Eve didn't know either, until stumbling upon them having dinner together.

While Carolyn may not necessarily mesh with her daughter, the two actors get on fine, with Shaw saying, "I’m thrilled that Gemma has joined the family. And it's hilarious because Carolyn is just absolutely a red rag to a bull with all of this feeling and self-help and emotional talk. It drives Carolyn mad!"

Carolyn Martens is cool, calm and collected... but, apparently her daughter has an affect on her.
