Casting News: Timothy Spall to Star in 'Bolan's Shoes', '70s Movie Featuring T. Rex Music

Get it on, bang a gong, get it on... Timothy Spall is starring in Bolan's Shoes, a new movie featuring the music of glam rock band T. Rex.

According to Variety, the movie is currently shooting in Liverpool, northwest England and Anglesey, northwest Wales. Leanne Best (Line of Duty) and Mark Lewis-Jones (The Crown) are co-starring.

The movie isn't a biopic of T. Rex, but is set in the band's '70s heyday and seems to contain echoes of their story. T-Rex's frontman Marc Bolan was tragically killed in a 1977 car accident, and the movie will also explore the fallout from the road tragedy.

Ian Puleston-Davies, who previously wrote the 2004 Michael Sheen movie Dirty Filthy Love, is directing the film, while Bolan's son Rolan Bolan is serving as an associate producer.

Producer Terri Dwyer said: "We are indebted to Rolan for giving us permission to use Marc Bolan’s music, as well as his likeness, and honored to have Timothy Spall in our midst, who adds such gravitas to the main role. The talent on set is electric, and with Ian at the helm, I feel sure Bolan’s Shoes is going to captivate audiences."

T-Rex notched up 10 consecutive U.K. Top Ten singles in the early '70s and cracked the U.S. Top Ten with their signature song "Get It On." The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.
