Casting News: 'Killing Eve' Star Jodie Comer Wanted for Ridley Scott's Napoleon Epic 'Kitbag'
Killing Eve star Jodie Comer is in line to star in Sir Ridley Scott's Napoleon biopic, Kitbag, according to a report.
Comer just worked with Scott on The Last Duel, a historical thriller co-starring Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Adam Driver, and her Killing Eve castmate Dame Harriet Walter. It shot in Ireland last fall and is currently set for release on October 15, 2021.
According to Deadline, Scott was "blown away" by Comer's work on The Last Duel and now hopes to cast her as Joséphine de Beauharnais, Napoleon Bonaparte's wife, in Kitbag. Joaquin Phoenix has already been tapped to play Bonaparte.
Though Comer is said to be "in early talks" at present, "all signs point to it coming together," according to the outlet.
The historical role would definitely add another string to Comer's already very impressive resume. Bonaparte and de Beauharnais had a famously tempestuous relationship which had a significant impact on the way the French leader conducted his life and military career. And of course, we already know from Killing Eve that Comer can absolutely smash a French accent (just as she can smash every other accent, to be honest).
Comer was recently nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her performance as Villanelle in Killing Eve, but lost out to The Crown's Emma Corrin. While you await her next move, you can catch Comer in episodes of BBC America's multi-award-winning Killing Eve.
