Casting News: 'Killing Eve' Actress Kirby Howell-Baptiste Joins Emma Stone in Disney's 'Cruella'
Killing Eve actress Kirby Howell-Baptiste has joined the cast of Disney's new Cruella movie.
Emma Stone is taking on the iconic title role of Cruella de Vil, who was created by British author Dodie Smith in her beloved 1956 book The Hundred and One Dalmatians and previously played in two '90s movies by Glenn Close.
Howell-Baptiste's role in the movie hasn't been revealed, Variety reports, but the British actress confirmed her casting on Instagram.
Howell-Baptiste, who played Eve's loyal assistant Elena in season one of Killing Eve, wrote: "In a year of highs and lows, this is a very high high."
Other Cruella cast members include Dame Emma Thompson, who joined the movie in May, Kingsman's Mark Strong, Game of Thrones' Joel Fry, Into the Badlands' Emily Beecham, and Kingdom's Paul Walter Hauser.
Director Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) is shooting now and Disney has a set a release date of May 28, 2021.
Howell-Baptiste adds Cruella to her increasingly impressive résumé: as well as appearing in Killing Eve, she's featured in a whole host of well regarded TV series over the last few years, including Barry, The Good Place, Veronica Mars, and Why Women Kill.
“There was no thought in my mind that I was strategically going to be on the best shows," she told EW earlier this year. "I was picking roles that I would enjoy playing and watching.” Let's hope Cruella is another!
