Oscar winner Sir Ben Kingsley, Mindy Kaling and Bohemian Rhapsody‘s Lucy Boynton have joined the cast of Lockdown, an intriguing new heist thriller-slash-romantic comedy written by Peaky Blinders‘ Steven Knight.
Chiwetel Ejiofor and Anne Hathaway take the lead in the genre-blending movie, playing a squabbling couple who call a truce to plot a jewelry heist at world-famous department store Harrods. According to Deadline, the iconic London landmark’s owners have allowed it to be used as a backdrop for the movie.
Lockdown‘s impressive ensemble cast also includes Ben Stiller, Stephen Merchant, Dulee Hill, Jazmyn Simons, and Doctor Who alum Mark Gatiss. Director Doug Liman (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Bourne Identity) is shooting now in the U.K.’s capital city. Though coronavirus social distancing regulations have been tightened in parts of the U.K. this week, London has so far managed to avoid “lockdown,” the super-strict state of affairs with which the film shares its title.
Occupying a five-acre site in Knightsbridge, west London, Harrods is the largest department store in Europe. Its strict dress code means prospective customers can be turned away for wearing casual items like tank tops, thong sandals, and beach shorts, which suggests Lockdown will definitely bring a touch of glamour to movie theaters when it opens.
