The Big Bang Theory was on air for 12 seasons and throughout the years there were a number of Doctor Who shout outs.

It’s nice that the Big Bang folks are fans of the BBC America fan favorite, and we’re fans of theirs, too.

The series, that revolves around a group of science-minded friends, came to a close in 2019, but the actors have been busy post-Big Bang.

Let’s have a catch-up with this ensemble cast, who have now disbanded:

1. Johnny Galecki

Johnny Galecki takes on the role of Leonard, an experimental physicist, who is the glue that keeps the group together.

You may know Galecki from his early days on the 1990s series Roseanne. And when the series made a comeback in 2018, so did Galecki. He returned to the reboot series, The Conners, to reprise his role as David Healy. Since we last saw David and Darlene Conner (Melissa Gilbert), the two since divorced. Even so, they continue to co-parent two children together, but keep a friendly distance.

2. Jim Parsons

Jim Parsons plays Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory. He is definitely a leader in the science world, with his focus on Dark Matter, but not so much in his group of friends (being deemed kind of a handful).

We recently saw Parsons in the 2020 miniseries Hollywood, as real life American agent Henry Wilson. The historical series is based in post-WWII Hollywood, revolving around a group of aspiring actors and filmmakers. Wilson helps make things happen.

3. Simon Helberg

Simon Helberg takes on the role of Howard. He’s an MIT graduate, working as an engineer… and more importantly, provides a lot of quirk to this somewhat serious bunch. And, style.

We saw Helberg in the Meryl Streep-led biopic Florence Foster Jenkins in 2016. He portrayed a pianist accompanying the more than slightly tone-deaf Florence. While she really couldn’t sing, his character was supportive and went along with it. We can also look for him in 2021’s Annette, also starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard.

4. Kunal Nayyar

Kunal Nayyar takes on the sweet, but slightly stuck-up, Raj. He is an astrophysicist, but is really more interested in finding love than discovering a comet (which he does do later in the series).

Just this week, we spotted Nayyar in the trailer for season two of Criminal. At first glance, we didn’t recognize him as Big Bang alum. But, it surely is him, and he’s playing a… suspect. Not “our” sweet Raj! The series premieres on September 16, we will surely tune-in to find out if he’s innocent or guilty. He’s also working on the crime series Suspicion, which is still TBD.

5. Kaley Cuoco

Kaley Cuoco plays Penny, neighbor to Sheldon and Leonard. She and Leonard get into a romantical entanglement, then untangle, and then finally… sort it out, making it official.

From 2019-2020, Cuoco provided the voice for Harley Quinn in the animated TV series. Also, she’s completed production on the forthcoming mystery-thriller series The Flight Attendant, where she plays the title role. During a layover in Dubai, her character wakes up in a hotel room, hungover, and shocked to find a dead body next to her. Rather than notifying the authorities, she returns to NYC with her flight crew as if nothing has happened. We really want to know what happened.

6. Melissa Rauch

Melissa Rauch plays Bernadette, a microbiologist who also waits table with Penny. Through Penny, she meets Howard, and the two hit it off.

Rauch stepped onto the big screen in 2019, starring in The Laundromat, joining an all-star cast made up of Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas. The comedic crime drama follows a widow investigating insurance fraud. It appears two law partners may be the culprits,  taking advantage of the system.

7. Mayim Bialik

Mayim Bialik came into the series in 2010 as Sheldon’s counterpart Amy Farrah Fowler, a neuroscientist. She not only matched his intelligence but helped teach him about life’s normalcies, like how to love.

(Fun fact: Bialik arrived with receipts, having earned a PhD in neuroscience herself.)

You can currently look for Bialik as host of Celebrity Show-Off, where well-known personalities put their talents to use remotely. She’s also signed on for the TV series Call Me Kat, a remake of the British fan favorite Miranda, which is in pre-production. And she plays… Kat! We love her and love that she’ll be taking on the title role. Kat decides to use the money her parents saved for her wedding to instead open a cat-themed cafe. Sounds about right to us.

8. Kevin Sussman

And, finally, Kevin Sussman plays Stuart, the art school graduate and owner of a comic book store, where the gang tends to gather. Stuart is a part of the friend group, but sometimes finds himself feeling left out.

With that said, we can’t leave Kevin/Stuart off this list. You can press the rewind button and look for Sussman in the 2015 TV series Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp as Steve. He takes on the role of one of the camp counselors who just may be able to control the weather.

Are you going to take a whirl through these new roles over the weekend?
