The first promo image of David Tennant as Phileas Fogg in Around the World in 80 Days has been released by the BBC.
Tennant stars as the iconic adventurer in a new eight-part adaptation of Jules Verne‘s classic 1872 novel, which follows Fogg as he attempts to win a £20,000 bet that he can circumnavigate the globe in 80 days.
French actor Ibrahim Koma co-stars as Fogg’s valet Passepartout, while Leonie Benesch (The Crown) plays Abigail Fix, an aspiring journalist who leaps at the chance to cover their expedition.

Tennant follows in the footsteps of Pierce Brosnan, Steve Coogan and David Niven, who have each portrayed Fogg in previous TV and film adaptations.
Shooting on Around the World in 80 Days was underway in South Africa, Deadline reports, before coronavirus put the brakes on in March. Tennant then flew back to his home in the U.K. to be with his family. You can check out our recent guide to how he kept busy during lockdown.
Around the World in 80 Days is due to air in 2021, the BBC has said. In the meantime, you can catch Tennant in the true crime miniseries Des, in which he plays infamous Scottish serial killer Dennis Nilsen. It’s airing now on ITV in the U.K. and will receive its U.S. premiere October 15 on Sundance Now. Check out the trailer below.
