Would you crumble if you were given a ticking off by Dame Helen Mirren?

Well, it turns out that a “very naughty bear” who entered the actress’s garden in Lake Tahoe, Nevada did exactly that.

During an interview on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, the Oscar-winning actress shared the story of how she accosted the bear when it came after her bird food.

“I saw a bear the other day! A great big black bear came by and stole all my bird food. I went out and I said, ‘Bad bear! Bad, naughty bear! Very naughty bear!” she recalled.

“He sort of looked at me and lumbered off,” Mirren continued. “Funnily enough, I was just reading a book – a little pamphlet – about wildlife up here. They were saying what to do if you encounter a bear – if it’s looking aggressively at you and hunching its back and looking like it’s about to charge, they said you make yourself look as big as possible. If you can grab a stick, make yourself look big. And then it literally said, ‘And then shout: Bad bear! Bad bear!'”

It certainly sounds as though Mirren followed this good advice to the letter. The actress has been sharing photos of the beautiful nature surrounding her Lake Tahoe home on Instagram in recent weeks – and so far, thankfully, the bear has yet to make an appearance.
