John Boyega, Felicity Jones, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Jack Reynor have all signed up to star in Borderland, an IRA thriller from The Uninvited directors the Guard Brothers.
Reynor (Midsommar, Sing Street) will play Michael, an Irish military who witnesses his pregnant wife being shot dead by an SAS sergeant named Tempest – played by Boyega – during an ambush that goes wrong.
When Boyega’s SAS sergeant is sent back to London, Michael joins an IRA unit deployed in the British capital so he can track down Tempest and exact revenge for his wife’s death.
Jones will also serve as an executive producer on the movie, which is due to shoot in the U.K. early next year. It’s not known what roles she and Turner-Smith, the breakout star of Queen & Slim, are playing.
Directors Tom and Charles Guard told Deadline: “Borderland is a vengeance fueled chase movie, fusing some pulse ticking action with a powerful message for our times. We’re thrilled that the script, driven as much by character as it is by plot, has attracted such a first rate cast.”
The casting news will surely feel especially sweet for Boyega, who told activists as he gave a powerful address at a Black Lives Matter rally in London last month: “I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this.”
Star Wars‘ production company Lucasfilm issued a statement in support of the actor, saying: “The evil that is racism must stop. We will commit to being part of the change that is long overdue in the world. John Boyega, you are our hero.”
