Margot Robbie is such a versatile actress. She surprised viewers by transforming into the infamous 1990s figure skater Tonya Harding for 2017’s I, Tonya. And, of course, made waves when ditching the Joker and spearheading an entire film dedicated to her character Harley Quinn in 2020’s Birds of Prey.

This time around, she’s taking an established franchise and making it her own. Well, not alone. Robbie is teaming up with Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson for a new installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

A makeover for Pirates has been in the works for a while, with talk of Karen Gillan and Emma Watson possibly signing on, but… the casting has landed on Robbie. Which, seems like a surefire pick to us. She has the draw and the spunk to bring in viewers, even steadfast fans who may be adverse to change.

Change meaning, no more Johnny Depp. The storyline will be new, as well as the characters. While the plot has yet to be announced, it has been confirmed this will not be a spinoff. We repeat… this is not a spinoff.

There is a sixth installment of the franchise in the works, which would star Depp if it happens, but it’s been in limbo for a while. It’s been announced, but not necessarily confirmed.

This is purely speculative, but we have a feeling Robbie’s new version might blow No. 6 out of the water (pirate lingo intended).

Do you want to see Margot Robbie as a pirate or a princess? We vote… pirate!
