There’s been a conversation going on for a while, that many women begin to feel invisible as they age. But, not Kate Beckinsale. She’s fighting that stigma and in an interview with Women’s Health, she didn’t hold back.

Beckinsale, 46, talks about getting put down for simply living her life, saying, “If everyone’s sh–ting on you, it can make you feel kind of ugh for a minute, especially if there’s really nothing wrong.”

“If you’re strangling a squirrel or hurting someone, I get it, but living one’s life in a reasonably respectful manner shouldn’t invite anyone to get too excited.”

Those are kind of extreme examples, but it gets her point across. And, that she clearly has a wicked sense of humor.

She feels like when women hit a certain age, they are chastised for having fun, which she means as “being goofy, and going out, and not going, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to sit home and anticipate menopause while crocheting.’ Unless you’re doing that, it somehow seems to be risqué, which is just ridiculous to me.”

Also adding on that there’s a double standard, saying, “And I witness men constantly doing whatever they like, whether that’s in relationships, or deciding to buy a motorbike, or getting a tattoo.”

You can look for Beckinsale in the forthcoming action-comedy Jolt, hitting theaters in November of this year. She’s set to star as a homicidal bouncer. She describes the character by saying, “It’s this woman who’s got this rage disorder.” She said in the interview, that when she tells other women about the character, it really resonates. She went on to say, “It was quite a nice thing to get to do that with a female director, Tanya Wexler. It was a good energy.”

Beckinsale and ex-husband Michael Sheen have a 21-year-old daughter together. While the two are “uncoupled,” they seem to still have fun together, reenacting the birth of their daughter in the below Instagram post:
