Sir David Attenborough is not just extremely knowledegable about natural history and science, but he’s also known to have a soothing voice. He’ll be putting both to use in a new BBC program, where high profile figures help out with homeschooling little ones, reports BBC Media Centre.

Attenborough’s online course will cover oceans, mapping the world and why animals look the way they do. In addition to Attenborough, Manchester City footballer Sergio Aguer will take on Spanish lessons. Professor Brian Cox will tackle science topics like force and gravity. Musicians Mabel and Liam Payne are set to combine music with reading. Doctor Who‘s Jodie Whittaker is scheduled to pop-in, too. She isn’t scheduled to teach a lesson, but is on hand for moral support. Her role sounds more like a teacher’s aid.

The famous faces won’t be going it alone. Two hundred teachers will be taking on the heavy lifting, contributing to the BBC’s new Bitesize Daily service. Parents and children alike can log on for tutorials, with the curriculum rolling out over the next 14 weeks, starting today (April 20).

Alice Webb, Director of BBC Children’s & Education, talked about the homeschooling initiative, saying, “We said the BBC would be there for people through this crisis, and we meant it. It’s vital that every child is able to continue learning, and the lessons we’re putting on will make sure they have fun at the same time.”

Each class kicks off at 9am BST via the BBC iPlayer. There’s also information available via the BBC Bitesize website. While the iPlayer isn’t available in the U.S., we have our fingers crossed BBC will be keen to share content via social media. We’ll keep an eye out and share the videos once available.

In the meantime, there’s plenty of David Attenborough over at BBC America, with full episodes of his nature programs.

You can look for Seven Worlds, One Planet, the Planet Earth series and Attenborough and the Giant Elephant, just to name a few.

Do you think Sir David will make a star teacher?
