If you’ve caught any of Miriam Margolyes‘ appearances on The Graham Norton Show, you’ll know she’s hilariously – and often outrageously – filter-free.
The Harry Potter actress is known for telling it like it is, and that extends to talking about career opportunities she’s turned down. During a new interview, she’s revealed that she declined an offer to replace Sandi Toksvig on The Great British Baking Show.
“I was asked if I wanted to be considered to take over from Sandi Toksvig,” she told the Daily Mirror. Explaining why she turned down the offer, Margolyes explained: “I can’t think of anything I would rather do less than be in a room with a frying pan and a saucepan. I’m not interested in cooking. I love being asked to supper, but to have anything to do with the preparation? It was kind of them to think of me, but no.”
Margolyes, who currently stars in Call the Midwife and presents documentaries for the BBC in the U.K., also revealed that she turned down an offer to compete on Strictly Come Dancing – the U.K.’s equivalent to Dancing with the Stars.
She outlined her philosophy to choosing work as follows: “If the only thing interesting in a job is the money, and you’re not poor, you mustn’t do it.”
Toksvig announced in January that she was stepping down as co-host of The Great British Baking Show after three seasons at the helm opposite Noel Fielding. Her replacement has yet to be confirmed.
