Daniel Radcliffe has shut down a tone-deaf Twitter hoax claiming he has been diagnosed with Coronavirus.
Radcliffe, who is currently co-starring with Alan Cumming in a production of Samuel Beckett‘s Endgame at London’s Old Vic Theatre, handled the rumors in his usual good-natured way.
“I walked into the hair and makeup room on the play yesterday and the makeup artist was like, ‘My niece has just texted me and told me you’ve got Corona,'” the Harry Potter actor told Australian radio host Smallzy.
“I was like, ‘What?’ He showed me a tweet and it was like, ‘Daniel Radcliffe becomes the first famous person to contract coronavirus.'” the Harry Potter actor continued. “I think it’s just because I look ill all the time so you can believably say it about me ’cause I’m very pale. That’s the internet. Flattered they chose me.”
His co-star Cumming shared a snap of the two actors looking well and healthy on Instagram yesterday.
While New York’s Broadway theaters have shut down as part of new state-wide regulations to prevent public gatherings over 500 people, London’s West End theaters have yet to implement similar measures. Radcliffe and Cumming are due to star in Endgame until March 28 when the production closes.
Earlier this week Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson became the first global celebrities to reveal they have tested positive for the novel coronavirus COVID-19. Hanks reassured fans by sharing a photo of the couple looking in good spirits on Twitter last night (March 12).
