Last Night in Soho, the mysterious new movie from writer-director Edgar Wright, just got even more exciting with the addition of Dame Diana Rigg and Terence Stamp.
Plot details about Last Night in Soho are being kept under wraps, but it’s said to be a “psychological horror-thriller.” We also know that Wright, best known for Baby Driver and his ‘Three Flavours Cornetto’ film trilogy with Simon Pegg, collaborated on the screenplay with former Penny Dreadful staff writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns.
The veteran thesps round out an impressive ensemble cast that includes Matt Smith, who signed up a few months ago, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), Thomasin McKenzie (The Changeover), Rita Tushingham (Doctor Zhivago), Michael Ajao (Attack the Block), and Synnøve Karlsen (Medici).
According to Variety, production is already underway and taking place on location in Soho, the central London district that has undergone gentrification in recent years, but retains definite echoes of its red light district past.
Wright previously said of the movie, “I realized I had never made a film about central London – specifically Soho, somewhere I’ve spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years.”
He added, perhaps a little cryptically: “This movie is about the London I’ve existed in.”
Stamp’s latest movie Murder Mystery, a comedy starring Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, debuted on Netflix on June 14. Rigg’s recent TV roles include playing the Duchess of Buccleuch on U.K. costume drama Victoria and Olenna Tyrell on Game of Thrones, for which she received four Emmy nominations.
