It’s official: Tom Hardy is definitely returning for a Venom sequel.

Hardy made his debut as Marvel antihero Venom (a.k.a. Eddie Brock) in last year’s movie of the same name. It became a huge box office hit, grossing $855 million worldwide, but reviews weren’t overwhelmingly positive.

However, this evidently hasn’t put him off reprising the role. “I can say that Tom Hardy will be back, magnificently playing that character as no one else can,” producer Amy Pascal told Fandango.

“When you think of Venom, you’ll never be able to think of anyone but Tom Hardy sitting in that bathtub of lobsters,” Pascal added. “And once you saw Tom Hardy do this character, that’s all you needed to know.”

Marvel Comics introduced the character of Venom in the late ’80s as a villainous rival to Spider-Man. Because of this, fans have been speculating as to whether Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man might join Hardy’s Venom in a future movie.

Asked about this, Pascal replied teasingly: “We have big plans for Tom Holland to be a part of everything,” and added: “He needs to be in every movie that I ever work on!”

That sounds pretty encouraging, right? In the meantime, we’ll catch Holland’s web-slinger in Spider-Man: Far From Home, which arrives in theaters July 2. Hardy’s next film in theaters is expected to be Fonzo, in which he’s starring as notorious gangster Al Capone.
