Hugh Whitemore‘s 1983 play, Pack of Lies, is getting another run, starring actress Finty Williams. You may not be all that familiar with Williams, but you definitely know her mother, the Dame Judi Dench.

Williams’ actor parents, Dench and the late Michael Williams, starred in the original 1983 West End production about a married couple (Dench and Williams) asked to spy on their neighbors, who are suspected of being Soviet spies.

We should point out… it’s based on a true story.

In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Williams talks about taking on a role her mother once played: “It’s an amazingly daunting prospect to play any part you’ve seen someone else play brilliantly.”

She watched her parents in the production when she was 10-years-old and goes on to say, “I read the script the other day and I can hear mamma’s voice doing it. What an amazing thrill to be doing something they did. I’m slightly overwhelmed in a wow sort of way.”

She doesn’t have any plans to ask Dench for directions, unless… “I come up against something I don’t know how to do.”

Rehearsals for the new production begin later this month, before it debuts at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory in September.

The playwright Hugh Whitemore passed away just two weeks ago (July 17, 2018). Williams’ father, and Dench’s husband, Michael Williams, died in 2001.

Finty Williams has also completed filming on the as yet unreleased movie We Can Be Heroes, starring alongside Alison Steadman (Gavin and Stacey).

Do you think Williams will make her mom proud?
