In the upcoming Netflix thriller Anon, Clive Owen (Closer) takes on the role of a detective in a practically crime-free society.

The sci-fi film, written and directed by Andrew Niccol (Gattaca), is set in a world where there is no privacy or anonymity. Owen’s character is investigating a string of murders, which up until now would have been unheard of, what with the population’s actions being recorded and traceable.

His search leads him to a young woman (Amanda Seyfried) who is very off the grid. She has no name and goes by “Girl.”

In the trailer released just yesterday (April 19), Owen’s character describes his new crime fighting colleague, saying, “Girl is a blank slate, no digital footprint. She makes her living covering up secrets.”

Her ability to go unseen is not just intriguing — it may be the key to figuring out the who committed the murders:

Anon premieres on May 4, and will be available for streaming.
