It was recently announced (July 18) that Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) will be taking on the lead role in On the Basis of Sex, portraying Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, according to Deadline.

Now we’ve learned that she’ll be joined by Armie Hammer (The Social Network), who’s been cast as Ginsburg’s late husband of 56 years, Marty Ginsburg.

When the film starts, Ginsburg isn’t in court with a gavel and robe as we picture her today. We meet her as a young law professor who, alongside her lawyer husband, brings the first gender discrimination case before the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C.

OK, so she is in court — just on the other side of the stand at that point.

The film is set to be released 2018, which also marks the 25th anniversary of Ginsburg as a Supreme Court Justice.

While Ginsburg is a household name — and a recognizable face — the story of how she worked her way up the legal ladder to the prestigious job she now holds may not be especially well-known. So it’ll be interesting to see the dramatization of what led up to this landmark case, and what came right after.

We last saw Jones in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and A Monster Calls, also released last year. Hammer was double trouble, playing identical twins in The Social Network in 2010. But, more recently he starred opposite Henry Cavill in the 2015 spy film The Man from U.N.C.L.E. In 2016, you may also have spotted him in The Birth of a Nation and the thriller Nocturnal Animals.

We took a peek at social media to see if either of the leads had commented on the film, and they have yet to do so. Nor has Ginsburg herself released a “yay” or “nay” on her life being dramatized. Which does leave us intrigued… we’ll keep an eye out and update you if the film’s stars — or its subject — put out a statement.

In the meantime…
