The sci-fi drama Chaos Walking already has Patrick Ness — the creator of the Doctor Who spin-off Class — on deck to write the screenplay, and is set to star Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man Homecoming). If that weren’t enough of a draw, we can now add David Oyelowo (A United Kingdom) into the mix, according to Variety.
Swish, swoo, that’s a lot of talent working on one project. Sign. Us. Up.
The big-screen adaptation is based on Ness’s young adult trilogy of novels. The story follows a young man named Todd Hewitt (Holland). He lives in Prentisstown, which is solely made up of men. Something is up in Prentisstown, where everyone can hear everyone else’s thoughts.
Ness writes in the first novel of the series, The Knife of Never Letting Go, “The Noise is a man unfiltered, and without a filter, a man is just chaos walking.” Ah, that is where the title comes from. Hewitt stumbles upon a spot in Prentisstown where he finds silence.
If you’d like to take a peek at some of the writer’s earlier work, here’s a peek at the film adaptation for A Monster Calls:
And, here’s Ness on the red carpet for the premiere, chatting with Anglo’s Sharon Carpenter:
Back to the casting highlights: Ridley will play the role of Viola Eade. She is a settler on the New World. Oyelowo will play Aaron, the priest of Prentisstown. We can also look for Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange) as Mayor Prentiss.
Chaos Walking will be directed by Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow, Jumper), releasing on March 2, 2019.
If you’re looking for more of Oyelowo, he has completed production on Cloverfield Movie (2018) and is currently filming the horror, sci-fi thriller, Only You (the plot is under wraps… intriguing!!).
