Whether or not you’re a fan of the Fifty Shades of Grey series, the music video that accompanies the sequel, Fifty Shades Darker, may draw you in.

Two clean-cut kids, One Directioner Zayn Malik and American singer Taylor Swift, have teamed up for the sexy single, “I Don’t Want to Live Forever.” The video that goes along with the steamy film, revolving around the not-so-clean-cut content of sex and bondage, was just released Friday morning (January 27) at 12:00am Eastern Time.

There are a lot of moving parts that come with the sequel, like Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) wants to get back together with his former lover and the submissive in their S&M-driven relationship, Anastasia Grey (Dakota Johnson). But Anastasia doesn’t want to play games any more… And then there’s Christian’s exes, Carla (Bella Heathcote) and Elena (Kim Basinger) waiting in the wings.

It seems like the dynamic of Zayn and Taylor’s relationship and circle of friends is just as complicated as the film’s storylines. Don’t get us wrong, it’s no 50 Shades of Pop Stars or anything like that. But… there is a lot of interconnectedness and overlapping relationships. Zayn is currently dating Taylor’s best friend Gigi Hadid. And Taylor previously dated Zayn’s former bandmate Harry Styles. And now Zayn and Taylor are collaborators.

It may be one of the reasons these two teamed up together. Because, yeah, they’re friends already, as seen in this birthday tweet from Taylor to Zayn:

This is the first time during Taylor’s career that such a long time has lapsed between album releases, according to TIME. It’s been more than two years, actually. So for people who have been craving new music from her, the wait is over.

In the dark, moody duet the two portray estranged lovers, and it’s quite believable. We hear lines like, “I just want to keep calling your name, until you come back home,” delivered by Zayn, as he slowly struts through a lounge-y bar. Taylor reciprocates the same longing feelings, singing, “I’m sitting eyes wide open and I have one think stuck in my mind.”

The song unravels like a story in the below clip:

And the fans are reacting via Twitter:

Are you the type to throw on a sad song and listen to it on rotation?
