It’s very easy for fans to confuse actors with their alter egos portrayed on-screen… especially the baddies. Like, “Ew. You were unfair to my Harry Potter, so I don’t like you.”

Actor Tom Felton, who took on the role of the devious Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, has talked about how fans would react to meeting him, saying in an interview from back in 2011, “A lot of them really struggle with the idea of it all not being real.” He went on to say being friendly could backfire, explaining, “But I think that freaks them out even more. ‘Why is Draco smiling at me?’”

It seems maybe he has finally set the record straight in a recent video uploaded to Twitter. In the below clip he is greeted by a teeny, tiny Harry Potter fan dressed in wizard gear. The little wizard runs to Tom and is clearly not scared of him. Even so, Tom whispers in the young fan’s ear, saying, “My name’s Tom. I play Draco Malfoy. Do you want to hear a secret?”

Tom’s voice gets even softer, saying, “I’m nice in real life. It’s only Draco who is mean. Tom is a really nice person, I promise.”

It’s very sweet to say the least. And, actually, the disclaimer may not have been necessary, with that lil’ one running in for a hug and not wanting to let go:

The genuine act of kindness seen above definitely tops this unfortunate embrace:

We can look for more of Tom in the The CW’s The Flash as Julian Albert, he just appeared in the most recent episode, “Borrowing Problems from the Future.” He also starred opposite He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named’s (okay, actually the actor is Ralph Fiennes, but there we go, confusing a person with his role) brother, Joseph Fiennes, in the 2016 film Risen, which you can check out over at Amazon.

Or, you can just keep watching the above video over and over — it’s just that good.

Are you completely smitten?
