What would you do if we told you the stars of Harry Potter, Doctor Who, and Star Wars were all set to feature in a big movie together? (No judgment here if your answer is “explode.”)

Well, The Circle stars Hogwarts alum Emma Watson, former TARDIS dweller Karen Gillan, and stormtrooper John Boyega, and it’s due out in theaters next year.

So it must be a swashbuckling tale of a plucky young wizard who summons The Force with her sonic screwdriver and travels back in time to confront Darth Voldemort, right?

… not quite. It’s a dystopian tech thriller satirizing internet culture.

Based on the 2013 best-selling novel by Dave Eggers, it tells the story of Mae Holland (Watson), a recent college graduate who lands a job at The Circle, a powerful technology company that sounds mighty familiar in the way it encourages total transparency among its staff and users.

As we told you last year, Gillan will play Mae’s college roommate Annie, who also works at the company and soon becomes envious of Mae’s success.

The release of the film’s trailer earlier this week (December 6) gave us our first chance to see both women on-screen together, along with Boyega as coworker Kalden, and Tom Hanks as the company’s CEO.

“When we are our best selves, the possibilities are endless,” says Hanks in the trailer. “Without secrets, without the hoarding of knowledge and information, we can finally realize our potential.”

Sounds good, right? Sure enough the staff lap up his words, but it’s not long before Mae discovers the sinister consequences of a lack of privacy and it all gets a bit Black Mirror.

If those consequences weren’t clear, then check out the use of a slowed down, eerie version of “Private Eyes” by Hall & Oates in the trailer:

The Circle opens in theaters on April 28, 2017.

Are you excited about this one?
