Parker Posey: You're on an Airplane: A Self-Mythologizing Memoir

We just mentioned the original 1965 series Lost in Space in this Anglophenia post on AI characters. And now there’s an adaptation of the space travel series being made by Netflix, set for 2018. In addition to learning the show itself is being made, we have some fun casting news.

It turns out Parker Posey is set to join the series as the not so trustworthy Dr.  Zachary Smith, reports Deadline. We say it’s “unexpected” in the headline because the late Jonathan Harris had such a tight grip on the role, making his performance so memorable. The role was also tackled by Gary Oldman in the 1998 film adaptation.

But, we can also see Posey as the diabolical doctor who will do anything to get home. She’s definitely portrayed some mischievous characters like the mean girl senior high schooler in 1993’s Dazed and Confused and in the title role of 1995’s Party Girl.

The storyline for the new series follows the original: The Robinson family is stranded light years from their intended destination. They fight to figure out a way home, avoid alien attackers, and even combat inner turmoil.

Being lost in space could easily be upsetting. We don’t blame them for having some self doubt.

Posey has maintained her “Indie It Girl” status while also appearing in feature films like 2015’s Irrational Man and 2016’s Café Society. We’ve also seen her in TV series like Bored to DeathNew Girl, and Louie. We can look for Posey in the new series Search Party, premiering just this week (November 21).
