Russell Brand as God. (Image: Dimension Films)

Things have been decidedly quiet on the Russell Brand front of late. Gone were the days when he was popping up all over the place, marrying pop princesses, turning up in Jason Segel movies, and having a bash at classic remakes.

Nope, instead he’s been taking a well-earned breather, which means meditating a lot, dabbling in online book groups, and putting in a spot of research in the run-up to welcoming his first baby later this year.

Right then. My Mum bought me this. Time to get ready! #trewlit #bookstagram #parenting

Aww. All this downtime doesn’t mean he’s stopped working altogether, though. He’s managed to squeeze in another movie, and if you thought his previous roles were a little, shall we say, self-indulgent, then cop a load of his next one. In upcoming feature Army of One, he plays God.

The film is the latest by Curb Your Enthusiasm director Larry Charles, and stars Nicolas Cage as Gary Faulkner, an unemployed handyman who travels to Pakistan armed with just a sword purchased from a home shopping network to capture Osama bin Laden.

Sounds wacky? It looks it too: Think Four Lions crossed with Borat.

Entertainment Weekly has got hold of the trailer, which shows the divine Russell give Gary the idea in the first place:

Army of One will be available to watch online from November 4.
