Ever asked someone a question and regretted it immediately? Asking your friend if they’d like help moving house over the weekend, say. Or asking “when are you due?”, only to discover the person in question isn’t pregnant.

Then spare a thought for Jimmy Fallon, whose guests on The Tonight Show last night (October 24) included one Ricky Gervais.

He started playing a game of “Random People, Random Questions” with him, in which people off the street ask any question they like to camera, no matter how absurd or personal, and it’s played back for the guest to answer.

Things started out well, with questions like, “Which of the seven dwarves do you most identify with?” and “If a genie gave you three wishes, what would you ask for?”.

But they took a bad turn when someone asked, “What’s the worst thing about getting older?”

The question seemed to hit a raw nerve, as Ricky quickly launched into a long answer: “I don’t know where to start. Honestly, I wake up in the morning now, and I go, ‘Oh God, I didn’t die’.”

A long list of hangups about his body then followed, until Jimmy urged The Office star to pick just one. The answer Ricky blurted out made Questlove almost choke on his water.
