The Light Between Oceans

In an earlier post we talked about how real-life couple Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander met on the dance floor. The two are now starring opposite each other in the forthcoming film, The Light Between Oceans, set in early 20th-century Australia.

They portray a married couple living on an isolated island, with Fassbender’s character in charge of a lighthouse. They only receive provisions via boat once a season. In other words, it’s just them.

In a new clip, we see how much the two enjoy each other’s company, away from the rest of the world:

Even though they are obviously in love, Vikander’s character pines for a child. Unfortunately, she is unable to carry to term. Lo and behold, the couple discovers a baby lost at sea in a lifeboat.

It would be just too easy for the three of them to live happily ever after. The story progresses when the couple runs into the child’s long lost mother two years later.

(We’re not spoiling anything, this is all in the trailer.)

Rachel Weisz stars as the desperate mother missing her lost child.

The film is based on M.L. Stedman‘s 2012 novel by the same name.

What do you think of the couple deciding to keep the child?
