We’ve missed having Hugh Laurie on our screens, though his appearance on Veep gave us a short-lived fix, not to mention his chilling turn as evil arms dealer Richard Onslow Roper in slick spy thriller and all-round Bond-audition tape The Night Manager.

Now he’s back in Chance, a new psychodrama due to start streaming on Hulu from October 19. Based on the novel by Kem Nunn, it follows forensic neuropsychiatrist Dr. Eldon Chance (Laurie), who goes against advice while dealing with a patient who may or may not be struggling with multiple personality disorder.

Show named after its lead character? Check. Lead character is a doctor? Check. Doctor is a maverick who goes against his bosses’ wishes to get things done? Checkity-check. So far, so familiar. But the trailer released Friday (August 5) has an undeniable Scandi-noir aesthetic, hinting at something altogether more disturbing.

Watch as Chance gets reluctantly sucked into a dangerous world of mistaken identity, police corruption and mental illness:

Another thing making a welcome return is Hugh’s American accent, of course. (Phew. What a relief. We were starting to think he was British or something.)

What do you think of the first look at Chance?
