Europe is currently in the grip of football fever as the Euro 2016 soccer tournament comes to a close, and last night (July 6) Wales played Portugal in the first semi-final.

So?, we hear you cry. Why should I care? Well, firstly Wales doesn’t often get that far. The last time the tournament took place was in 2012, and not only did Wales fail to qualify, but they were ranked 117 in the world, which is even lower than the U.S. team (*ducks for cover*). And secondly, this was their chance for a place in the … okay, okay, okay, we’ll drop the soccer talk. The second reason you should be interested is the entire Sherlock cast were watching.

That’s right. All of them. Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin FreemanMark Gatiss, Amanda Abbington, and the rest are currently filming season four of the wildly popular detective series in the Welsh capital Cardiff, and couldn’t help but get in on the action:

Who knew Benedict was bilingual? Is there no end to his talents?

The game didn’t go as Wales supporters hoped, however. Things took a turn for the worst in the second half, leading Louise Brealey, who plays Molly Hooper, to utter the following understatement:

By the time the final whistle blew, the score was 2-0 to Portugal. It fell to real-life and on-screen husband and wife duo Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington to sum up how everyone Welsh was feeling:

Well, tomorrow is another day and all that. Now get back to work, you lot, we want another season to watch.
