The idea that John Barrowman could pop up anywhere at a moment’s notice isn’t a new one: His character Captain Jack does it all the time in Torchwood, and as an actor he clearly relishes the art of surprise.

Now this skill has been written into his contract, it seems. Den of Geek is reporting that John has been granted series regular status across all of the DC Comics TV universe, meaning his character Malcolm Merlyn could be popping up in shows such as The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl, as well as Arrow.

This kind of series-bending role is not without precedent. Wentworth Miller recently signed a similar contract to bring his Legends of Tomorrow character Captain Cold into the other three shows as well. Not to mention the fact John’s character Merlyn has already dropped in on an episode of The Flash, and, as a not-quite-a-hero, not-quite-a-villain-either kind of character, proved his usefulness in keeping everyone on their toes.

“Everyone” of course includes Arthur Darvill, who plays Time Master Rip Hunter in Legends of Tomorrow, having gained his time-traveling diploma as one of Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith‘s companions. The two Doctor Who stars have never met on screen, but that could be about to change.

Excited to see how this pans out? The new season of the Arrowverse kicks off October 4 with the return of The Flash, followed by Arrow on October 5, Legends of Tomorrow on October 6, and Supergirl on October 10.
