We briefly met the Big Friendly Giant (BFG) in an earlier clip, but this time around we get a proper introduction.

An orphaned girl (Ruby Barnhill) meets the BFG (Mark Rylance) in Roald Dahl’s story The BFG, soon to hit the big screen courtesy of director Steven Spielberg, but she didn’t really know what to make of him. At first she thought he might eat her, but he laughed it off and even playfully gave her a little growl.

He has no intention of snacking on the the little girl (not saying all giants have a “human bean”-free diet) and explains to her who he is and what he does in the below clip:

The BFG hits U.S. theaters on July 1.
