Buzzfeed have gotten hold of a clip of Daisy Ridley’s audition tape for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and it shows how the relative newcomer nailed the part of Rey right from the beginning.

They didn’t make it easy for her, that’s for sure. Daisy had to read the most powerful scene in the movie: the Kylo Ren torture scene, where Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) uses the Force to read the mind of Daisy’s character Rey. The scene hinges not on special effects or clever editing but on the abilities of the two actors, so it was important they found the right actor to play Rey.

As director J.J. Abrams explains in the clip, that’s exactly what they found in Daisy:

Nailed it. A testament to Ridley’s acting abilities, the audition is remarkably similar to the final scene in the movie, with her delivery, her expression and the tears almost exactly the same.

At only 23 years of age and with Episode VIII starting filming last month ready for its December 2017 release, she’s one to watch, for sure.

This clip as well as other behind-the-scenes footage, a making-of documentary and a whole host of deleted scenes will be available on the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Digital HD DVD and Blu-ray, released on April 1.
