Is Cate Blanchett signed on to star in the next installment of the Thor trilogy? The Australian actress joked about joining the superhero franchise with Jimmy Kimmel earlier in the month, ultimately dodging the question.
But when asked about it, Marvel star Mark Ruffalo did not hold back.
Ruffalo, who starred as the Hulk in 2012’s The Avengers and 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, will be reprising his role in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.
He was at a BAFTA event this past weekend (January 9) where Entertainment Tonight threw him a “trick” question, asking him if he’s looking forward to working with Blanchett on Thor 3.
Ruffalo, without even blinking, replied, “I’m so thrilled. I saw her at the Governors’ banquet here (Los Angeles) and heard that maybe she was circling, they were talking to her about the part, so I ran up to her and I was like, ‘Please, please, please make this work!’”
Slight spoiler ahead: The Avengers star didn’t stop there. He was just so excited, busting out, “She’s just one of the best, and to have her play a baddie is going to be really exciting.”
As we mentioned above, Blanchett worked her way around the question earlier in the month, telling Kimmel that Chris Hemsworth was busy and she’d be taking on the role of Thor, saying, “They’re just substituting one Australian for another. Gender equality! Why can’t you have a female Thor?”
Clearly she was teasing about Hemsworth stepping down. He and Tom Hiddleston will return as the rival brothers, Thor and Loki, respectively.
Ruffalo may be on to something, but Blanchett joining Thor, and in what capacity, is yet to be confirmed.
