If you’ve read the third installment of Helen Fielding’s Bridget Jones’s Diary book series, forget everything.
We say that because it turns out the next installment of the film franchise, Bridget Jones’s Baby, is said to be based on Fielding’s Independent newspaper columns that she wrote prior to the books being published, according to the U.K. Independent.
We can let out a huge sigh of relief. Let’s all do it together, “Whew!”
Of course, we don’t want to spoil anything, but as you may already know, Colin Firth‘s character Mr. Darcy didn’t fare so well in the last book.
Multiple publications are posting photos of Firth reuniting with Renée Zellweger on set, a dashing Mr. Darcy and pregnant Miss Jones, which you can check out here.
When we left off with the couple in The Edge of Reason, the two were newly engaged.
The third book rushed through a lot of life-changing moments, like getting pregnant, for example, fast-forwarding Jones into her 50s and raising two children. Luckily, someone pressed the pause button, then rewind, and the film is set to pick up with her being pregnant and entering her 40s.
We attended a book reading with Fielding at Housing Works in NYC when Mad About the Boy first came out in 2013. Fielding explained that she wrote the third book based on where she was in life at the time.
She elaborates on her reasoning when making plot decisions in this Time interview.
Darcy’s smarmy archnemesis Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) won’t be returning for the next installment, according to Free Radio.
