There isn’t much of Jamie Bell that’s recognizable in the new Fantastic Four, which opens on Friday (August 7). He portrays the super strong character the Thing through motion capture technology. His workdays on the set had him wearing a performance capture suit and stills to elevate his height. He was a strange sight to behold.
“I’m basically wearing pajamas. Luminous green pajamas with a little cap on—on stilts,” he says.
On the set were his fellow cast members who had to contend with Bell’s odd outfit and the stilts. He said: “I’m surprised they could actually take me seriously at all, in fairness, because it’s a pretty bad look.”
American actors Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller and Kate Mara play the other three Fantastic Four characters. It seems that Bell was a source of amusement to some of his U.S. acting colleagues. Sitting next to Miles Teller the British actor said: “Every time I open my mouth he starts laughing at me.”
But Kate Mara points out that Jamie Bell is “very easygoing” and Michael B. Jordan describes him as a “very giving actor.”
Fantastic Four has been plagued by numerous reports of troubles during its production. But Miles Teller is philosophical in how he views the negative comments from the press and fans. He says, “Very few people in any kind of artistic enterprise can create something and not have it open to public discussion.”
