Consider this part of an occasional series in which we dig up old footage of famous actors appearing in the early stages of their career, particularly in the kind of weekly TV procedural dramas that require a high turnover of actors (Emilia Clarke, this means you).

This is a series of moments from a 2007 episode of the BBC’s Casualty, in which the fresh-faced Tom Hiddleston—then 26 years old—played a reckless window cleaner with morally ambiguous mates.

Granted, his performance lacks a certain regal something when compared to his subsequent haughty hits. There again, can you imagine him doing his best Loki sneers as a window cleaner? It simply wouldn’t be appropriate.

There again, we could also have a look at this, Tom’s first major appearance on screen at the age of 20, as a Lord and acolyte of Dominic West’s Sir Mulberry Hawk in the 2001 TV movie adaptation of The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, by Charles Dickens:

That, sir, is more like it.
