Damian Lewis plays a POW who returns home in Showtime’s Homeland. (Showtime)

Homeland’s Damian Lewis joins fellow Brits Ewan McGregor and Naomie Harris in the film adaptation of John le Carré’s espionage novel Our Kind of Traitor, reports Variety.

Our Kind of Traitor revolves around an English couple, Perry (McGregor) and Gail (Harris), while on holiday in the Caribbean who meet a Russian businessman by the name of Dmitri “Dima” Vladimirovich Krasnov (Stellan Skarsgard).

Dima is hoping Perry is a British spy or can put him in touch with British Intelligence. The self-proclaimed “world’s number one money launderer” wants to pass along criminal information in exchange for protection for him and his family.

While Perry is not directly affiliated with MI6, he makes a call to get the ball rolling, resulting in government agent Hector Meredith (Lewis) being put in charge of the investigation.

Variety describes Dima as taking the couple on “a tortuous journey through Paris, the Swiss Alps and London.”

This isn’t the first of le Carre’s novels to be made into a film with Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Ciarán Hinds, Benedict Cumberbatch) hitting theaters in 2010 and The Constant Gardener (Ralph Fiennes, Rachel Weisz) coming out in 2005.

Our Kind of Traitor begins filming this week in London.

Do you think Damian Lewis can pull off playing a spy? (Sarcasm)
