JK Rowling

Her Harry Potter novels have received blockbuster film adaptations, but now JK Rowling‘s own rags-to-riches story will be dramatized for the small screen, according to The Daily Mirror. The British paper reports that Strange Magic, “an authorized, straight-to-TV movie…will take in the author’s early years in [England’s] West Country and tell how Harry Potter was dreamed up during a train journey from Manchester to London.” Aussie actress Poppy Montgomery, who played Samantha Spade on the cancelled TV drama Without a Trace, is set to star in the piece. The film will reportedly be shot in Victoria, British Columbia instead of Rowling’s home of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Rowling’s spokesperson had no comment on the matter. (Ruh-roh.) The extremely wealthy novelist is known to be guarded about her private life.
