It looks like Gavin & Stacey won't be coming to the U.S. after all. Rumors of an American remake have been circulating for just over two years and word on the street was ABC had a pilot in the works in 2009. However, The Sun says the network is no longer interested.

"It's a massive shame as we had high hopes for the show," a source said. "We loved the idea of seeing how the characters would have worked across the pond."

For those not quite in the know, BBC America's Gavin & Stacey is a fabulous romantic comedy that captures the perils of a long distance relationship between Gavin (Mathew Horne) and Stacey (Joanna Page). Joanna lives in the Welsh suburb of Barry, just outside of Cardiff, while Gavin resides in Essex, England. On the American flipside, there were talks that the show would have been set in New Jersey and South Carolina.

Here's hoping an amiable cable network picks this up. American versions for The Office and Queer as Folk have done extremely well, just to name a couple.
