As you may have noticed, there is a distinct and unusual lack of Amy Winehouse in the previous two posts. I must remedy that. I bring you a track from Winehouse’s 2003 album Frank. As you can see from the video, the pre-“Rehab” Winehouse was fuller-figured and smoothed of rough edges both in physical appearance and in her voice. She was a smooth-jazz diva – a very accomplished one, mind you – but without the retro idiosyncrasies that make Back To Black such an arresting and unpredictable work.
