Don’t feel bad, after putting over 200,000 miles on my Bonny, the tranny finally went out (along with a sketchy electrical system, front bushings, ball joints etc.), I needed a car really bad because I drive 120 miles a day for work and a guy I worked with had an Aunt that just passed away. I handed over 1,500 bucks and had a dang low mileage, in great shape Plymouth Acclaim parked in my driveway. After driving it a while, I got used to the slow pace and fell in love with the good mileage.
Haven’t sold it and haven’t looked for another car. My son and I call it the “Granny Getter”
P.S. The transition from the supercharged 3.8L motor to the 2.5L was helped by having a 1200cc rice rocket parked in the garage. I got my fix on that….then sold it in a couple years because I had lost my license for a week 2 times due to 1 point here, 3 points there….
I have an 06 Toyota Corolla in Gray which makes it almost invisible to police radar. It is a good city rat but sadly it has no soul.Like any other appliance you just turn it on and go. On the up side it came into it’s own when gas prices went nuts during the summer. And the best thing I did was upgrade the tires or “tyres” for the Brits, from the P.O.S OEM’s to a performance all weather tire. Huge difference in response and traction in rain and snow. It’s not thrilling but it get’s me where I’m going.
-An ‘88 Toyota MR2 S/C (driven about half the time)
-A modified ‘90 Mazda Miata (driven about the other half of the time)
-A 2007 Ariel Atom (Not kidding)
I currently own a 2006 chevy cobalt LT 4-door. its my daily driver, and i’ve had for a little over 2 years, and it has about 63,000 on it, all highway. its an ok car, and it does the job right of getting me places. i dont race, i do drive it aggressively though and its pretty quick and nimble. i need to change the brakes on it. and would love to have some work on it, (suspension, rims, tires, intake, maybe exhaust) but its my daily driver, and i would much rather have an Altima SE-R or an EVO.
93 jeep cherokee country edition, factory alloy wheels, power windows, 4 wheel drive, cd player, 4 doors, no mods except some more agressive all terrain tires, so it is unstoppable offroad so far, and great on the highway, 20 mpg for a vehicle thatll go anywhere i want to go. 173,000 mi.
Most people don’t realize that the Edsel was a very good car! The quality control on the Edsel assy. line was much better than the Fords and Mercury’s. They were quick too.
As far as ‘family cruisers’ go, I’m busy wearing out my 2nd Ford Explorer. Momma is a Chevy Gal, she has an 05 Malibu. But “Lizzie” the Model T is our favorite ride.

And now “Old Fart” get’s a high five and a online beer slid across to him. Yes, they where very good cars but where destined to die before the first one rolled off the assembly line. Researching and reading the history on the failed division they talk of the unvieling party for the 58’ and the then CEO had mentioned it was a dead line.
To many factors killed the Edsel. A slumping economy, the move to smaller, fuel efficient cars,(sound familar to anyone) a front end that looked like a vagina, a car that was hyped as being ground breaking but was to close to the Ford Fairlane (again, sound familar) then a small dealer network not prepared since they could only sell Edsels,
If it could have survived one more year to 1961 it would have lived. Slated for 1961 was the Edsel Comet, but the Comet went to Mercury….
